My TMJ LP Spines

Yup. These are the spines of my TMJ vinyl LPs. A few Green Eggs, a couple of SOSIA, two Besides and sandwiched in there is a lone German copy of Cereal Killers.

Joybuzzer Issue #1 (Spring 1992)

Joybuzzer was a great zine run by Clive Young, Dave Streich and S. Scott Lessig. It featured discography updates, news, creative editorials, fan letters and answers and the like. I'll be uploading some (if not all) of the issues on here. However some of these will be edited (i.e. published fan letters with names and addresses) but most will be brought to you as they were. Enjoy.

Reflex Magazine Double-Issue September/October 1991

A wonderfully informed seven-page band interview with TMJ fan Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller. Possibly (probably) the largest article/interview/piece on the band ever published. Again, this was photocopied as I came into TMJ full-on after Cereal Killers had come and gone, promotionally speaking. And copies of the late, great Reflex Magazine were always on the scarce-side.

Enjoy!

Randix AM/FM Clock Radio with Cereal Killers CD!

Being a general record geek I always used to stop and look at such things. For whatever reason (oh yeah...TMJ fanboy) I kept this from a catalog because they used the out-of-print Cereal Killers in their ad for a crappy clock radio.

Enjoy.

Cereal Killers New York Times Review

The blurb in the ...finally liner notes for Jay's credits are taken from this review (i.e. "disingenuous harmonies, brash guitar").

Cereal Killers more photo stuff

Cereal Killers Photo stuff

This is my favorite TMJ Photo. I dunno why. This is the CD longbox (remember them?), the cool photo from the fold in the CD and the cassette (remember them) photo too.
The Cereal Killers poster had an ideal combination of all of these and was/is very nice indeed.

Crush Story (1991)

If there was ever one song that TMJ did that out and out deserved to be a hit, it was "Crush Story". Sure the intro rips off The Clash's "I'm Not Down" but the song itself is every bit TMJ. MTV was very influential at this time and the music video is a bit schizophrenic. The band visuals actually suit the music perfectly, however the video itself simply looks very inexpensive-looking (which surely did not help its cause). Everything else does not suit the music perfectly: the models, the lizards and the old men are all from somewhere else. The intentionally campy feel has nothing to do with the quality of this song. But also surprising was how radio never picked up on an obvious (and easy-to-digest) winner. Even WDRE-FM underplayed this song. A classic. And they even recycled the chords for "Long Haired Guys From England" - how thoughtful!
